Our Services

Defence fire engineering experts are able to offer a variety of fire engineering services, some of which are global and some are unique to the country we operate in.

A fire safety certificate is a legal requirement and needs to be sought before any building work commences.

Defence fire safety certificate application services range from initial design review to achieving a granted fire safety certificate, this includes compilation of the Compliance Report and Fire Safety drawings and liaising with the Fire Department during the review and approvals stage.

A fire risk assessment is probably the most important tool in your arsenal in ensuring the safety of the people using your building and is mandatory in some form under many countries fire safety legislation. In order to make sure you know that your fire risk assessment is robust, it’s best to call in the experts.

Defence team members have expertise in key fire safety disciplines to be able to provide the most comprehensive and insightful fire risk assessments; meeting legislative requirements and helps identify the good and bad elements to your building, and a review of fire safety management, which together allows areas for improvement to be identified.

The drivers for improvement can be legislative, life safety, asset protection or operationally continuity rooted, but in all cases the fire risk assessment provided will provide a detailed insight in the fire safety provisions in operation and identify where improvement can be made and what the benefits attained will look like. This will allow you to be confident that you have complied with all your legal responsibilities under local legislation.

Defence offers a variety of innovative fire consultancy services, working with architects, designers, and approval authorities to create the optimized fire safety strategies. One of the tools we use is Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) fire modeling.

Fire modeling is a key tool when trying to predict the spread of smoke and heat from fires in built environments and when used correctly can be a powerful design and safety tool.

When a building burns often the smoke inhalation or heat transfer can be more hazardous than the movement of the flames, so it is important to assess how this may occur in the event of a fire. This can then influence means of escape planning and the design of passive and active fire systems.

CFD fire modeling looks to solve equations describing the fluid flow and heat transfer from the growth and spread of fire. They predict smoke and heat movement in buildings of any design and is a key tool in fire engineering.

A Fire Safety Audit is an examination of your business’ premises and relevant documents by fire safety inspectors, to ascertain how your premises are being managed with regards to fire safety.

A fire safety audit could be requested for many reasons, it could be a legal requirement in the location you are building or you could just need one to audit against the buildings fire standards, our experts will be able to give you the right advice over what you need to meet your obligations and deadlines in the most cost-effective way.

Evacuation models are currently employed in fire safety engineering for the design and assessment of the life safety conditions of buildings, infrastructure and outdoor areas threatened by fire. Papers are invited as part of a special issue of Fire Technology devoted to the topic of Fire Evacuation Modelling. Interest here is on experimental, theoretical, computational contributions and case studies that concern the following areas of fire evacuation modeling (but are not limited to):

• Enhancements to the evacuation modeling

• Enhancing the relationship between models, (including new technology such as virtual reality)

• The development of models which address a broader range of topic areas (e.g., the combination of pedestrian/traffic/fire models, evacuation modeling of wildland urban interface fires) • Innovative applications (e.g., modeling of the time periods of a fire beyond the fire event itself, including preparedness and recovery).

• Modelling of vulnerable groups (e.g., children, elderly, disabled) in fire events.

The international standards Institution document refers to a Fire Strategy as providing ‘a clear set of measures encompassing fire precautions, management of fire safety and fire protection. ’ It involves the development and implementation of risk appropriate policies and procedures in line with objectives specific to the business. Its aim is to reduce life risk while protecting business procedures and assets.

Fire strategies are commonly developed during the design phase for a new building or refurbishment project. They provide an overriding document setting out the fundamental requirements that provide the focus for subsequent, more detailed specifications. A fire strategy will provide building owners, occupiers and managers with relevant information from which to develop and implement effective prevention and protection solutions.

The Inspection Section of the Defence of Fire Prevention inspects the life safety components of new building construction, building remodels, and fire sprinkler & fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with the international and local Fire Code.

Defence fire inspectors have an important checklist to complete when performing fire safety inspections. Since these requirements vary by buildings type , business type and types of equipment they must install based on a structure’s size and usage, and how they are to install required equipment.

Defence fire engineering teams are able to advise on all facets of fire engineering, this includes third party fire systems review.

Third party fire systems review are often required in construction projects, as peer review can support submission paperwork under the Building regulations or help you understand and evaluate a submission that a third party has presented to you.

We can offer third party fire systems review for fire protection plans and specifications for strict compliance with international, state and local codes and standards.

The review will also identify the key drivers for the design approach, be this legislation, life safety or asset protection and insurance, and will deliver an evaluation as to the suitability of the design to achieve these stakeholder requirements.
